The Cudia family embodies a connection that spans Italy – from Sicily to Friuli Venezia Giulia – uniting the flavors and traditions of the entire peninsula. The story of the Pepè coffee roastery is deeply intertwined with Italy’s history and the world wars.
During the First World War, Natale Cudia – an army officer and one of Sicily’s earliest academics – was deployed to San Vito al Tagliamento to fight on the Italian-Austrian front. It was there, in the local theatre, that he met Emilia, who would soon become his wife. Together, they returned to Sicily to build a life there.
During the Second World War, the Cudia family was forced to move north, finding refuge in Emilia’s hometown. After the war, in a time marked by great challenges but also vibrant renewal, their young son Giuseppe began taking his first steps into the world of Italian culinary excellence in San Vito al Tagliamento.
Pepè Caffè was established in 1998, born from years of experience in trade and the founder’s deep passion for Italy’s food and beverage culture. The brand name “Pepè” comes from the affectionate nickname given to Giuseppe within the family, while the product line “MAS” pays tribute to his son Massimo. The company’s love for the world-renowned Italian espresso is reflected in its unwavering commitment to product quality, which has become its defining hallmark.
